CMVBC 2010 WEEKLY RANKINGS UPDATE #11
April 22, 2010
The HOA Region covers the entire state of Kansas and the Western half of Missouri.
Whoo Wee! Another regular Club Season has nearly come to a close. Six months worth, starting with tryouts and running through Regionals. A season filled with new players to CMVBC in several age groups and old veterans who have played for many years. We saw the innocence of our youngest players, who took the court for the first time in wide eyed amazement, having a little bit of jitters and with the biggest smiles while getting to know the competitive sport of Juniors Volleyball… while our 18U players will play their last matches and take to the court for the last time in Club Volleyball, bringing their CMVBC careers to a close.
A season that saw cross-town rivals battles go from the local tournaments all the way up to the Regional’s stage. A club year that brought more new events, rare situations and some uncanny outcomes for CMVBC teams. Everything from a Gold team playing in multiple National Qualifiers and more than one Gold Team playing in a Qualifier. A year that saw all 14 teams place 3rd or higher in a tournament, 13 teams playing in at least one Championship match and 12 Teams win at least one or more tournaments. This is something incredible as a Club and very hard to accomplish with so many teams.
Then sticking with the rarest of rare, we had a 12U CMVBC team win the HOA Gold Heart Challenge Cup tournament. Just playing in it was a huge step for the Club at that age, but playing hard and giving it your best resulted in the team winning the tournament! This was only the 2nd time in the Club’s 20 year history winning Gold Heart. A season with surprises and challenges… where no age division, no team designation, no coach was safe! Anywhere from a tiny 5-team regular season tournament to the Regional semi’s, anything could happen and did.
2010 saw CMVBC teams travel to the Gateway Region, where teams either hit a wall and came up short or busted it down to win the tournament or found themselves somewhere in between. A season that saw the strange and unusual occurrence of multiple injuries befall to multiple players on one team. Something that saddens one’s heart to see for any team to go through, but the dedication of the 15-2 team was uplifting and refreshing to the spirit as they continued their season as long as they could in a sport they love. Sometimes the measure of the player or a team is not shown by the win/loss column, but how they handle themselves when circumstances are at the toughest for a player or a team.
This season also saw another CMVBC Silver Regional Champion crowned and a #1 ranking achieved for the 15-1 team! In addition, we had five Top 5 teams, seven Top 10 teams and nine Top 20 teams out of all 14 CMVBC teams in the season-ending HOA rankings. The coaching staff this season was comprised of the Usual Suspects and some new ones who got to cut their teeth in the wonderful world of Juniors Club Volleyball. Each year brings new challenges and a few old ones, along with a constant learning curve as the sport keeps evolving. It also brought a lot of excitement and joy as the coaches see the players grow, learn and succeed on many different levels. Thank you parents, for letting your daughters play in CMVBC as well for letting our coaching staff have the opportunity to teach and work with them in the sport of Volleyball.
Listed at the bottom of this week’s article is our CMVBC record of Gold & Silver Regional tournament finishes from 2006 – 2010 for your review. The tradition continues on!
Gold Teams:
CMVBC holds onto one top 10 and one top 15 ranking in the HOA Gold division.
(Current Rank 7th) The 16-1 Infinity team tied for 5th in the Region Bid tournament out of 39 teams. Infinity will play in Kansas City at the Show Me Qualifier on their journey for a bid to Nationals. I wish them Good Luck and look forward to seeing the results of their efforts. (The last weekly ranking will cover our two CMVBC teams at the Qualifier.)
(Current Rank 29th) The 17-1 Synergy tied for 17th out of 27 teams in the Region Bid tourney. Synergy placed above their Region seeding in the tournament, which is always nice to finish ahead of where the Region has you placed. All season, Synergy competed in a very strong tournament schedule. They played in two championship matches at their tournaments and just missed on a few others (placing 3rd three times on the season). With a strong desire to play a tough schedule, we saw Synergy face the challenges and come through with what it takes to play Gold in the 2nd oldest age group in Club Volleyball. Congratulations on a fine season and representing CMVBC at the Gold Level!
(Current Rank 12th) Attagirls 18-1 tied for 9th out of 20 teams in the Region Bid tournament. They also placed ahead of their seeding in the tourney. Attagirls play in Kansas City at the Show Me Qualifier to measure their team with some of the best teams in the nation. I wish them Good Luck and look forward to seeing the results of their efforts. (The last weekly ranking will cover our two CMVBC teams at the Qualifier.)

The team fell short this past weekend, but still had an exceptional season. The Terminators took five 1st place titles on the season (most in the Club). Terminators lost only 3 matches in 7 Tournaments. The team took home medals in every tournament they played. Great effort and play all season long for the Terminators.

15-1 IMPACT #1 out of 92 Teams (+1) 2nd, 1st , 2nd , 1st , 3rd, , 2nd , 1st
IMPACT gets the job done. Working all season to get from #2 in the region to #1, they accomplish the feat by taking 1st place at the Silver Regional tournament by defeating cross-town rivals, CAVBC 15-2. The team played hard and consistent all season long. They took a spill in their execution of that strong play in a Gateway tournament before Regionals. Yet they used that as motivation to play their very best in the Regional tournament. Impact keeps the streak of consecutive seasons with CMVBC taking a title at Silver Regionals. Impact played in the title match of every tournament they attended except for one, taking three 1st places in the process. An awesome season and fantastic finish for the IMPACT team.
Match Record 38- 8 – 6
(Season Completed)
15-2 BOOMBA! #45 out of 92 Teams (+1) 3rd
BOOMBA! had one top 3 finish on the season out of the 5 tournaments they were able to complete. Not all of those had the complete make-up of the original team due to injuries, but these girls kept at it as long as they could compete. The injuries to the team became too many and too severe for players to fully recover and come back to the team this season. A great group of players, who were unable to fully complete and finish the season.
I wish to thank the parents, the players and the coaches for their patience and commitment to the Club and this team.
